ITT Interconnect Solutions, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects, and cable assemblies, has developed a new field-attachable packer feedthru system. Providing a faster method of passing power cables through packers, ITT ICS’ BIW designed the packer feedthru system with a field-attachable feedthru connector, a mating attachable cable connector, a cross-over adapter and accompanying hardware.“Our new innovative packer feedthru system allows the connector to be installed on the top side of a packer using a cross-over adapter, eliminating the need to splice downhole cables,” said Keith Teichmann, director of marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions. “This in turn eliminates any potential stress on the cable, as the packer feedthru system includes a completely variable threaded adjustment system.”
The variable threaded system allows vertical adjustment of up to three inches (76mm). It’s also possible to install the termination contacts on the cable conductors before the cable is passed through the packer, potentially reducing the amount of work an installer is required to carry out in a vertical position over an open well.
The field-attachable packer feedthru system has a maximum diameter of 2.6 inches (66.04mm). Length above the packer with a round cable ranges from 26.4 to 29.5 inches (672mm to 748mm), while length with a flat cable ranges from 30.4 to 33.4 inches (772mm to 848mm). Voltage rating is to 5,000VAC, with current to 140A and pressure to 5,000psig. Maximum conductor temperature is 175°C (350°F).
